Tissue Sources for Pancreatic Cancer Organoids

Establishing patient-derived tumor organoids (PDTOs) from endoscopic ultrasound-guided biopsies yields success rates comparable to surgical specimens, offering viable options for personalized medicine in pancreatic cancer. In a meta-analysis of 24 studies, overall success rate was 63%. Pooled success rates for PDTO establishment from endoscopic ultrasound-guided biopsies, percutaneous biopsies, and surgical specimens were 60%, 36%, and 62%, respectively. This suggests that both endoscopic ultrasound-guided biopsies and surgical specimens are suitable for PDTO tissue acquisition.
