A significant association was found between appendicitis and subsequent diverticular disease in a large German cohort study. Men had a stronger risk compared to women, with a higher 10-year incidence of diverticular disease in those with appendicitis. The findings emphasize the need for further research on the relationship and potential therapeutic interventions, such as probiotics, in managing both conditions.
