Effectiveness and Safety of Endoscopic Resection for Gastric Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors

Researchers investigated the efficacy and safety of endoscopic resection (ER) for gastric gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) originating from the muscularis propria (MP). The study included 233 patients who underwent ER, with a median tumor size of 12 mm. The complete resection rate was 93.1%, with complications occurring in 4.7% of cases, including perioperative perforations (1.7%) and bleeding (1.3%). Factors associated with piecemeal resection were larger tumor size and irregular shape. The findings suggest ER is an effective and reasonably safe approach for gastric GISTs originating from the MP.
