Genetic risk score based on 7 obesity-related genes significantly influences weight loss after bariatric surgery in patients with severe obesity. The study, conducted in Spain, revealed a substantial effect of the genetic risk score on the percentage of excess weight loss during a >60-month follow-up period. This underlines the importance of considering the polygenic nature of obesity in predicting outcomes post-bariatric surgery.
