Improving Perforated Appendicitis Classification with Data Mining Algorithms

Improving accuracy of administrative data for perforated appendicitis classification is crucial. Two data mining algorithms, leveraging icd-10-cm codes and length of stay, showed significantly higher accuracy than those relying solely on icd-10-cm codes. With sensitivity and specificity of 0.86-0.88 and 0.95-0.97, respectively, these algorithms offer a reliable method for better classification of perforated appendicitis, facilitating valid reporting and assessments in healthcare.
