Comparing laparoscopic and open surgery for colorectal cancer, researchers found significant advantages with minimally invasive surgery, including shorter hospital stay, lower medical complications, and improved survival. Both approaches showed similar pathological outcomes in terms of lymph nodes and margins. Laparoscopic surgery, when performed by skilled surgeons, is oncologically safe and is increasingly becoming the standard approach for treating colorectal cancer at the institution.
