Dilatation of Pancreatic Duct Post-PD Linked to Exocrine Function Impairment

Researchers found that 21.7% of patients developed main pancreatic duct (MPD) dilatation 1 year after pancreatoduodenectomy (PD), which was significantly associated with impaired exocrine function. Endocrine function, nutritional status, and fatty liver development were not affected. A serum total protein level ≥7.3 g/dL was identified as an independent predictor for MPD dilatation. The mean MPD diameter increased significantly at 6 months post-PD and plateaued thereafter.
