Individuals with lower polygenic risk scores experienced better weight loss outcomes after bariatric surgery compared to those with higher scores, especially in patients undergoing roux-en-y gastric bypass. Genetic background, assessed through polygenic risk scores, plays a significant role in long-term weight loss post-surgery, alongside factors like sex, age, and initial BMI. These findings suggest the potential of utilizing genetic risk scores to predict bariatric surgery outcomes.
