Similar Parastomal Hernia Recurrence Rates in Open Sugarbaker vs Keyhole Mesh Repair

A randomized clinical trial compared open retromuscular Sugarbaker and keyhole mesh placements for parastomal hernia repair over 2 years in 150 patients. At the 2-year mark, parastomal hernia recurrence rates were similar between the two groups. There were no significant differences in reoperations, complications, or patient-reported outcomes between the techniques. Further advancements are needed to enhance parastomal hernia repair outcomes.
