Effectiveness and Safety of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery in Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease

Metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS) is effective for sustained weight loss in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients, with acceptable complication rates. Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) leads to higher weight loss percentages but carries a higher risk of late surgical complications compared to sleeve gastrectomy (SG). CKD patients undergoing MBS saw improvements in kidney function, with some even receiving successful renal transplants. Future studies are needed to further evaluate the safety of MBS in this patient population.
