Modified stapled colorectal reconstruction reduces anastomotic leak risk by 62% compared to conventional double-stapled anastomosis. This systematic review of 2537 patients from 12 studies found significantly lower incidences of overall postoperative morbidity and major morbidity with the modified technique. The evidence supports modifying the conventional technique with reduced intersection between stapled lines to lower anastomotic-related morbidity.
