Serum Hepcidin Levels as a Diagnostic Marker for Acute Appendicitis

Serum hepcidin levels were significantly elevated in patients with acute appendicitis (1750±285 pg/ml) compared to healthy controls (1066±225 pg/ml, p<0.05) and those with non-appendicitis pathology (1349±381 pg/ml). These findings suggest that hepcidin could be a valuable biochemical marker for diagnosing acute appendicitis and differentiating it from other abdominal conditions.
