Probiotics enhance weight loss and eating behavior after surgery

Participants receiving probiotic supplementation alongside a weight loss program and cognitive behavioral therapy experienced significantly greater reductions in weight, body mass index, and fat mass compared to the placebo group (p < 0.001). Improvements in eating behavior and food addiction were also reported, with a significant decrease in leptin levels (p = 0.02) and an increase in oxytocin levels (p = 0.008) observed in the probiotic group. These findings suggest the benefits of probiotics in managing weight regain post-bariatric surgery.
