Predictive model identifies early recurrence risk in liver cancer patients

A simple predictive model for early recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) post-liver resection has been developed. Based on an analysis of 1,133 patients, five key prognostic factors—alpha-fetoprotein levels and AJCC stage—were identified. Among the cohort, 35.1% experienced early recurrence within two years, with respective two-year recurrence-free survival rates of 79%, 57%, and 35% for low, intermediate, and high-risk patients. This model facilitates better stratification of recurrence risk.
