Robotic hepatectomy proves more cost-effective than open surgery

A comparative analysis showed that robotic hepatectomy resulted in a shorter median length of stay (2 days vs. 3 days) and significantly lower major complication (0% vs. 8.2%) and readmission rates (3.3% vs. 11.5%) compared to open hepatectomy. Overall, total 90-day perioperative costs were reduced by 19.5% in the robotic cohort. Despite higher intraoperative costs, savings were primarily seen in postoperative care, including supplies and laboratory expenses, making robotic procedures more financially favorable.
