A systematic review of 2537 patients across 12 studies revealed that modified stapled colorectal anastomosis significantly lowers the risk of anastomotic leaks by 62% compared to conventional methods. Additionally, overall postoperative morbidity and major morbidity rates were also significantly reduced, indicating that modifications to the double-stapling technique improve short-term outcomes in minimally invasive surgery. Limitations include the retrospective design of many studies, but the evidence supports adopting the modified approach.
