A study involving 215 colorectal cancer patients highlighted that those with sarcopenia exhibited significantly higher preoperative inflammation markers, impacting their postoperative outcomes. Key indicators, including the immune-inflammation index and systemic inflammatory response index, demonstrated remarkable predictive capabilities for postoperative complications, with area under the curve values of 0.938 and 0.877 respectively. The findings indicate that sarcopenia exacerbates the inflammatory response post-surgery, leading to a higher risk of complications and influencing long-term mortality rates.
