Indocyanine green enhances visualization in challenging laparoscopic cholecystectomies

Visualization of the cystic duct-common bile duct junction improved with indocyanine green (ICG) during laparoscopic cholecystectomy, particularly in high-risk patients. In a study of 168 patients, 100% of low-risk, 91.1% of moderate-risk, and 63% of high-risk recipients achieved clear visualization. Notably, 25% of high-risk patients had surgical modifications due to ICG guidance. Conversely, complications were more frequent in high-risk cases, indicating the need for effective visualization to enhance surgical outcomes.
