Novel simulator enhances training for laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair

A new simulator for transabdominal preperitoneal laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair has been validated. This model, featuring an innovative exchangeable peritoneum, was highly rated by 24 surgeons for its realistic tactile feedback and anatomical fidelity. Performance evaluations revealed that surgical experts outperformed residents, achieving higher scores and faster procedure times. The simulator’s effectiveness suggests it could significantly reduce the training duration for laparoscopic techniques, alleviating the steep learning curve faced by novice surgeons.
