Population-level data indicates that the rate of diverting ileostomy creation during ileal pouch-anal anastomosis for adults with ulcerative colitis has remained consistent from 2000 to 2019. A comparison between the diverting ileostomy cohort and those without revealed longer hospital stays for the latter group, yet a decline in readmission rates was observed. Regional variations in ostomy creation rates were noted, but these fluctuations did not affect the overall stability of the practice over the years.
