New preoperative assessment criteria reduce liver surgery risks

A study involving 150 patients undergoing major hepatectomy for hilar cholangiocarcinoma identified critical risk factors for postoperative liver failure. The combined assessment of future remnant liver volume to total liver volume ratio (frlv/tlv) and indocyanine green clearance fraction (icgk-f) proved effective in predicting complications. Patients with both high-risk factors had a significantly greater incidence of post-hepatectomy liver failure (60.0%) than those without (8.1%). This approach enhances preoperative planning to avoid serious surgical outcomes.
