Female patients less likely to receive opioid-sparing regimens

A study examining pain management in ventral hernia repair found that female patients were less likely than male patients to receive an opioid-sparing regimen despite showing a higher analgesic response and lower morphine consumption postoperatively. Specifically, only 62.27% of females were offered opioid-sparing pain regimens compared to 66.34% of males. The analysis revealed an odds ratio of 0.647 for female patients receiving these regimens, underscoring the need for increased awareness of sex-specific pain management differences among clinicians.
