Healthcare professionals and patient representatives have reached a consensus on safe practices for bariatric and metabolic surgery tourism (BMT) in Europe. Key recommendations emphasize the importance of pre-operative evaluations, management of psychological health, and regulatory standards like surgeon accreditation. With input from 119 healthcare professionals and 88 patient representatives across 26 countries, the consensus aims to enhance patient safety, provide comprehensive patient education, and ensure standardized operative care, addressing rising concerns over inadequate care in medical tourism.
