The global burden of paralytic ileus and intestinal obstruction (PIAIO) has been evaluated, showing alarming trends from 1990 to 2021. Prevalence and incidence rates remain high, particularly in males and among those under five years and the elderly. Despite potential improvements in mortality rates, health disparities persist across socio-demographic indices. Analysts predict that with population growth and aging, burdens will increase, emphasizing the urgent need for targeted control strategies to mitigate future health challenges.
