In a study comparing weight loss outcomes between sleeve gastrectomy (SG) and semaglutide in a minority population, SG demonstrated superior weight loss after 12 months. The cohort, primarily consisting of African American (67%) and Hispanic (21%) patients with a mean BMI of 55 kg/m², included 206 participants. Results indicated that semaglutide may be less effective for those with severe obesity, highlighting a need for further research into the efficacy of GLP-1 agonists in diverse populations.
