The study analyzed 973,520 cases of metabolic and bariatric surgery, revealing that conditions such as GERD, COPD, smoking, and specific surgical procedures significantly heighten the risk of inpatient postoperative care (IP-POC) needs. Male patients exhibited increased severity but lower likelihood of complications, while Black and Hispanic patients faced higher risks. Scoring thresholds for IP-POC have been established, which can enhance patient counseling and resource allocation in surgical settings.
