A comprehensive review found that the main pancreatic duct diameter and pancreatic texture are critical for predicting postoperative pancreatic fistula, while age and ASA score are significant for other complications. Of 90 studies evaluated, only 26% of risk stratification tools had external validation, with even fewer (20%) for artificial intelligence models. The findings emphasize the need for enhanced validation of these risk models to facilitate effective clinical implementation and informed surgical decision-making.
