Intersphincteric approach shows higher cure rate for perianal abscess

A comparative analysis of two surgical approaches for deep perianal abscess found that the intersphincteric approach with internal incision and counter-drainage achieved a cure rate of 91.2%, significantly higher than the 76.2% cure rate for traditional incision-drainage. While the intersphincteric method required more time during surgery, it did not negatively impact factors like anal function, wound healing, or hospital stay. Preoperative evaluations must consider historical surgeries to optimize outcomes further.
