High accuracy in predicting clean common bile ducts

A study involving 584 acute biliary pancreatitis patients revealed that age, gamma-glutamyl transferase, alkaline phosphatase, and direct bilirubin levels significantly correlate with choledocholithiasis presence. The determined cut-off values indicated a 97% negative predictive value for a clean common bile duct when all four parameters were below thresholds. Consequently, unnecessary imaging could be minimized, leading to reduced costs and risks associated with unnecessary procedures while ensuring patient safety during follow-up.
