EUS-guided gallbladder drainage proves effective for acute cholecystitis
EUS-guided gallbladder drainage (EUS-GBD) is emerging as a safe, effective solution for managing acute cholecystitis in patients unfit for surgery. Recent findings indicate improved technical and clinical outcomes, especially with the use of lumen-apposing metal stents, which facilitate direct gallbladder inspection. The study emphasizes the necessity of standardized techniques and precise patient selection, while highlighting the need for ongoing research to refine clinical indications and assess long-term outcomes.
Patients who needed emergency general surgery within 60 days of a pulmonary embolism had more major complications than those operated on later, in a national database study.
Among 3,785 patients who had emergency general surgery after acute pulmonary embolism, those operated on at least 60 days later had markedly fewer major adverse events (adjusted OR 0.45, 95% CI 0.37–0.55).
