The implementation of a transition of care bundle significantly enhanced health-related quality of life (HRQOL) for patients after major emergency abdominal surgery. Results showed improved HRQOL scores at 30, 90, and 180 days post-surgery in the group that received the bundled care compared to the pre-intervention group. While there was no change in overall readmission rates or days alive out of the hospital, fewer patients required rehabilitation upon discharge after implementing the new care strategy.
