Natural orifice specimen extraction shows promise for diverticular disease surgery

A systematic review analyzing 428 patients revealed that natural orifice specimen extraction (NOSE) for left-sided resections in diverticular disease is safe and feasible. Key findings indicated low rates of surgical site infections, a mortality rate of one, and reduced hospital stays averaging 4 to 6 days. Pain scores were lower post-NOSE than after traditional approaches, with few conversions to transabdominal extraction required. Overall, NOSE presents a beneficial alternative in surgical outcomes.
