Splenic artery ligation effectively reduces posthepatectomy liver failure.

A randomized controlled trial found that splenic artery ligation significantly decreases the incidence of grades b and c posthepatectomy liver failure in patients with elevated portal venous pressure. Among 36 participants with high pressure, those receiving the intervention had a failure rate of 16.67% compared to 66.67% in the control group (p = .006). The procedure also lowered ascites volume and comprehensive complication index scores, revealing splenic artery ligation as an independent protective factor.
