Robotic pancreaticoduodenectomy lowers complications and hospital stays

A recent study revealed that robotic pancreaticoduodenectomy (RPD) significantly reduces the rate of clinically relevant pancreatic fistulas (10%) compared to open pancreaticoduodenectomy (OPD) (33.3%). Patients undergoing RPD also experienced shorter hospital stays (15 days) versus 22.5 days for OPD. Despite longer operative times for RPD, overall hospital costs were similar between the two approaches, as higher surgical costs were counterbalanced by fewer postoperative complications and reduced hospitalization.
