A study of 652 patients undergoing emergency surgery for acute irreducible inguinal hernias revealed that 15% required bowel resection. Key preoperative risk factors for resection included femoral hernia and intestinal obstruction, with additional factors like female gender, older age, and comorbidities increasing likelihood of surgery. Patients needing resection had heightened post-operative complications and longer hospitalizations. Integrating these findings into clinical decision-making may enhance patient management and outcomes.
