A new clinical prediction model offers reliable assessment for anastomotic leakage (AL) in rectal cancer surgery, based on a study of 3,765 patients. The model identified key risk factors, including gender, diabetes, preoperative chemoradiotherapy, and surgical parameters. With area under the curve (AUC) values of 0.818 and 0.815 for internal validation, and consistent calibration results, this model stands out as a practical tool for improving patient outcomes during the perioperative period.
