SSI prevention bundle significantly reduces infection rates in surgery

A multifaceted surgical site infection (SSI) prevention bundle effectively decreased infection rates in patients undergoing emergency general surgery (EGS). The study reported significant reductions of 48% for superficial infections, 68% for deep infections, and 55% for intra-abdominal infections. Additionally, the median hospital stay shortened from 13 to 8 days with the bundle implementation, despite a longer operative time. These outcomes suggest that adopting bundled strategies can enhance surgical care in emergency settings.
