A comprehensive study involving over 472,000 participants reveals critical insights into diverticular disease risk. Key lifestyle factors, including smoking, alcohol consumption, and poor sleep, correlate with increased risk, while a diet rich in fruits and whole grains offers protection. Among the 23,742 cases identified, complicated diverticulitis maintains specific associations with smoking and insomnia. Notably, the effects of these lifestyle factors can vary based on genetic predisposition, underscoring the importance of individualized preventive strategies.
