Five-Year Outcomes: Laser vs. Traditional Hemorrhoid Surgery

A new study compares long-term results of laser hemorrhoidoplasty, excisional hemorrhoidectomy, and sutured mucopexy for treating second- and third-degree hemorrhoids.

5-year symptom recurrence rates: 24% (excisional), 29% (laser), 44% (sutured), with no statistical significance.
Recurrence details: bleeding (18% excisional, 31% laser, 31% sutured) and prolapse (12% excisional, 23% laser, 34% sutured).

Excisional hemorrhoidectomy yields the best outcomes, but laser hemorrhoidoplasty offers a shorter, less painful recovery.
