Compliance with Cancer Standard Improves Rectal Surgery Outcomes

Facility adherence to Commission on Cancer Standard 5.7 is linked to better surgical quality in rectal cancer.

  • CRM positivity is lower at compliant facilities (12% vs 14%; adjusted OR 0.82, p=0.04).
  • More patients achieved complete total mesorectal excision (TME) at compliant hospitals (adjusted OR 1.63, p=0.001); incomplete TME rates were also lower (9% vs 14%, p<0.001).

Surgeons should prioritize surgery at compliant centers to enhance patient outcomes.
