Gastrojejunostomy Technique Has No Significant Impact on DGE

A randomized trial found no significant difference in delayed gastric emptying (DGE) rates between side-to-side gastrojejunostomy (SSGJ) and end-to-side gastrojejunostomy (ESGJ) after pancreatoduodenectomy.

  • DGE occurred in 38.0% after SSGJ vs. 30.4% after ESGJ (p=0.314).
  • Rates of postoperative complications, nutritional outcomes, and quality of life were similar between the two approaches.

Surgeons can choose between SSGJ and ESGJ without concern for differing rates of DGE or other major complications.
