Longer anticoagulation cuts clots after cancer surgery

After cancer surgery, extended blood thinners reduced venous clots without a detected rise in major bleeding.

  • The analysis combined 14 randomized trials involving 4,331 patients.
  • Both direct oral anticoagulants and low-molecular-weight heparin reduced clots compared with placebo.

Oral drugs had a more favorable overall benefit-harm balance, but that edge came from indirect comparisons—not a definitive head-to-head trial.
