Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma has more options

Resection remains central, but care now includes preoperative therapy, liver-directed treatments and drugs matched to tumor changes.

  • About 30% to 40% of patients have tumor changes that may match an approved targeted drug.
  • For advanced disease, chemotherapy plus immunotherapy is a first-line option; liver-directed treatment may help when cancer remains in the liver.
  • Consider preoperative chemotherapy for high-risk resectable tumors; transplant is reserved for highly selected patients.

This is a treatment review, not a head-to-head comparison, so it cannot show which option works best.
