Perioperative hypothermia is not significantly correlated with surgical site infections (SSI) in patients undergoing liver resection, according to a retrospective cohort study. Researchers analyzed data from 4,000 patients and found that among those with hypothermia, 6.8% developed SSI. However, after propensity score matching, there were no substantial differences in SSI rates between the hypothermia and normothermia groups. The study suggests that the implementation of perioperative temperature management, particularly active warming measures, may mitigate the impact of hypothermia on the occurrence of SSI in this patient population.
