Mesh type does not significantly impact long-term hernia recurrence after laparoscopic cruroplasty

Among 2170 patients undergoing laparoscopic hiatal hernia repair with follow-up, objective recurrence rates were 20.8% with suture repair, 20.6% with absorbable mesh, 13.7% with non-absorbable mesh, and 0% with partially absorbable mesh. Despite initial favor for non-absorbable mesh in the mid-term, all mesh types showed similar long-term recurrence rates (≥48 months). Mesh type did not prove superior to suture repair in preventing long-term hernia recurrence.
