Findings from a study on 105 patients who underwent Whipple’s procedure for pancreatic cancer revealed that inferior pancreatic duct topography was linked to higher rates of metastatic spread and tumor recurrence, as well as reduced overall and recurrence-free survival. Conversely, posterior pancreatic duct topography was associated with lower incidence of perineural sheet infiltration and improved overall survival. These results highlight the importance of considering pancreatic duct anatomy in surgical planning to tailor personalized approaches and improve patient outcomes.
