Validation of Textbook Outcome Parameter in Esophageal Cancer Surgery

This study validates textbook outcome (TO) as a quality performance indicator (QPI) for esophageal cancer surgery. Postoperative complications, including Clavien-Dindo grade ≥3 complications, and 30-day readmission rate are associated with reduced survival. Updating TO parameters to include severe complications strengthens its association with increased survival, suggesting the need for a more precise QPI definition in esophageal cancer surgery.
