Comparing Circular Staplers for Colorectal Anastomosis
A systematic review and meta-analysis compared two-row, three-row, and powered circular staplers for colorectal anastomosis. Powered staplers showed significantly lower risk of leakage and anastomotic bleeding, while three-row staplers only reduced leakage risk. Subgroup analysis did not reveal significant differences between the groups. An important finding was the superior risk reduction in leakage with powered circular staplers compared to three-row staplers.
Removing the rectal tumor and liver spread in one operation did not clearly raise complications or hurt survival compared with two separate operations, a French national study found.
A Japanese randomized trial found that a 14-day schedule of trifluridine-tipiracil plus bevacizumab keeps patients with metastatic colorectal cancer alive as long as the standard 28-day schedule, with far less toxicity.
