Impact of Surgeon Gender on Postoperative Mortality

Patients treated by female surgeons experienced lower postoperative mortality compared to those treated by male surgeons, especially for elective surgeries. No significant differences were found in readmission or complication rates. This meta-analysis of 15 retrospective cohort studies involving over 5 million participants provides moderate certainty evidence that surgeon gender may influence patient outcomes post-surgery.
