Reduction in muscle mass, measured through L3-CT, is common in pancreatic cancer patients undergoing surgery. Preoperative low skeletal muscle index is significantly linked to lower overall survival rates but not to other postoperative outcomes. Evaluating skeletal muscle index preoperatively could help predict patient outcomes, highlighting the importance of nutritional interventions to preserve muscle mass and improve clinical results in pancreatic cancer surgery.
